Although bladder infections are more common in women, men can get them too. Signs and symptoms of bladder infection, also called cystitis, in men include
- Urinating often.
- Strong, constant urge to urinate.
- Burning or tingling feeling during or just after urination.
- Low-grade fever.
- Cloudy or bloody urine with a strong odor.
- Trouble urinating, especially if you have a prostate health issue.
You may be more likely to develop a bladder infection if you:
- Have an enlarged prostate, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia.
- Have kidney stones.
- Have diabetes.
- Have narrowing of the tube that carries urine out of your body, also called urethral stricture.
- Had a tube that drains your bladder, also called a urinary catheter.
- Had a procedure done where an instrument was inserted into the tip of the penis.
Bladder infection treatment depends on the cause, but it typically includes antibiotics.
